Osmond Grady Williamson, 98, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at the Legacy Retirement Community in Bay City, Texas. Williamson, a World War II veteran, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the eighth of 13 children born June 30, 1912, to Henry and Emma Williamson in Hobucken, North Carolina. After graduating from Hobucken High School, he attended the University of North Carolina and received his law degree in Washington DC. Williamson had an esteemed career in public service, working for the Washington D.C. Police Department, serving as a Secret Service guard for President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and was a commissioned officer with the Navy during World War II. He retired from the Navy in 1972 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After retirement from the Navy he began teaching history at Van Vleck Junior High School and working as a local rancher on the 5X Ranch. He was an active member of the Masons, the American Legion and Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Grady is predeceased by: his wife of nearly 60 years, Jane Glossen Williamson. He is survived by: daughter, Janie Williamson McCormick and husband Mike; son, Raleigh Sanborn Williamson and wife Connie; granddaughter, Lauren Williamson Price and husband Michael; and grandson Chad Williamson and wife Nikki and beloved great-grandson Holden Doyle Price. He is also survived by his brother, Harry Williamson and wife Jill, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Bay City, Texas.
