William M. ‘Bill’ Simmons, Jr., 82, passed away at home with his loved ones by his side on July 7, 2012. He was born April 2, 1930 in Nederland, Texas and raised in Van, Texas. Bill was a three year veteran of the Marine Corps and a member of the Rosenberg Masonic Lodge since 1952. He retired from Gulf States Tube Corporation in 1987 after 27 years. Bill was an avid bowler and golfer, but what meant most to him was spending time with his wife and family. We will forever cherish our memories of a selfless, giving and loving man. He was preceded in death by his parents William M. Simmons, Sr. and Effie Lee Simmons; brother Lee Odell Simmons and son Robert L. Simmons. Bill leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Gladys; son William M. Simmons, III and wife Diana; daughters Rhonda Harris and husband Jim, Kimberley Hewitt and husband David, Cynthia Jenkins and husband Larry and brother, Odis L. Simmons. He was lovingly known as ‘Pop’ to grandchildren: Clay Hewitt, Jennifer Harris, Megan Generale, Ryan Harris, Sarah Bailey, Alexandra Hewitt, Caley Scheid, Chase Jenkins, Jessica Harris, Erin Simmons, Breanna Hewitt, Patrick Simmons, Noah Jenkins, Rachel Jenkins and Elizabeth Jenkins, and great grandchildren: Jonah Harris, Micah Harris, Gracie Killingsworth, Elijah Bailey and Mark, Ava, Alexander and Gemma Generale. He also leaves behind nieces, a nephew, other relatives and many wonderful friends. “The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.” Proverbs 20:7. We love you, Pop, and will miss you until we see you again. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with a time for visitation at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Rosenberg, 1117 First Street, Rosenberg, Texas 77471. Graveside services will follow at Davis-Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to LIVESTRONG or the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
